For many years, it was thought that the only film made in Terezín was the one directed by Kurt Gerron, which was known under the title Der Führer schenkt den Juden eine Stadt [The Führer Gives the Jews a City] In recent decades, it has been discovered that three shootings were made between 1942 and 1945. These productions were not the products of Goebbels’ Propaganda Ministry; rather, they were SS projects.

The Nazis planned a propaganda film in the Terezin ghetto which began in 1942 and it was not finished until 1945. We do not consider Theresienstadt films as separate projects (two, three, or even four). That fragmentation has led to an artificial separation of the completed 1945 film from the earlier film materials dating from 1942-1943 and February-March 1944, which has interfered with the overall understanding of the film Theresienstadt.

Our documentary "deconstructs " Terezin's film material over time: the way in which it is edited, sounded, tricked, explored and what such interventions reveal about the hegemonic tendencies in each historical period, both in code aesthetic as ideological.
